Audio Joiner & Mixer
The Audio panel includes a dedicated Joiner for merging several audio files into one — useful for combining multiple recorded segments of the same lecture or interview into a single file — and a separate Splitter for the reverse, cutting one long file into parts. A Mix tool combines multiple audio tracks together rather than end-to-end, which is different from joining and worth knowing before you pick the wrong one for what you're trying to do.
Converting to WAV, FLAC, or M4A
WAV and FLAC are both lossless — WAV is uncompressed, FLAC compresses without discarding audio data — which makes either a better choice than MP3 for archival copies you might need to edit or re-encode again later. M4A (AAC) is the more practical pick specifically if you're building a library for an iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device, where it's the more native format than MP3.
Text→Wav: typed text to spoken audio
This is a genuinely surprising tool we found in the Audio panel that isn't mentioned on the developer's own marketing page: Text→Wav converts typed text directly into a spoken .wav audio file. It's a real, functional feature confirmed during our own testing — not a rumor from a changelog entry — useful for quick voice memos or accessibility purposes without needing separate text-to-speech software.

Which format should I pick for a music library?
FLAC if storage space isn't a concern and you want lossless quality; MP3 at a high bitrate (256–320 kbps) if you want broad compatibility with older devices and a much smaller footprint per track.
Can I convert surround-sound audio without losing channels?
AC3 and DTS output specifically preserve multi-channel surround audio pulled from a video source — converting to plain MP3 or WAV instead will typically fold the audio down to stereo, so pick AC3 or DTS if keeping the full channel layout matters.
Does the Mixer combine tracks or overlay them?
Mix overlays multiple audio sources into one combined output, playing simultaneously rather than one after another — the Joiner is what you want if you need tracks placed end-to-end in sequence instead.
AAC, AC3, and DTS explained
AAC generally offers better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate and is the standard audio codec inside most MP4 video files, which is why it's a natural output choice when working with video-derived audio. AC3 (Dolby Digital) and DTS are both broadcast and home-theater surround formats — you'd reach for these specifically when preserving a 5.1 or similar multi-channel mix pulled from a movie or TV source matters more than simple stereo playback.

Converting a whole music library at once
The same batch workflow used elsewhere in the app applies here — select every file in a folder when adding to the Audio panel, and each converts individually but with the same target format and bitrate. For a genuinely large library (hundreds or thousands of tracks), converting in smaller batches makes it easier to spot a problem file early rather than only discovering an issue once everything has already processed.
Test your bitrate choice on one file first
Before committing an entire library to a specific bitrate, convert one track and actually listen to it on the device or setup you plan to use — what sounds fine on laptop speakers may reveal compression artifacts on good headphones, and it's much easier to adjust before converting everything than after.
Match the format to the purpose
There's no single "best" audio format here — the right choice depends entirely on what you're doing with the output. Sharing widely: MP3. Archiving: FLAC or WAV. Apple devices: M4A. Surround sound: AC3 or DTS. Matching the format to the actual purpose avoids re-converting the same files twice.
Sample rate matters too
Bitrate gets most of the attention, but sample rate (44.1 kHz is the standard for music) also affects quality — check the destination configuration dialog if a converted file sounds subtly off, since a mismatched sample rate is a less common but real cause of audio issues after conversion.
