Format Factory Editing Tools: Join, Split, Crop, Delogo & More
Format Factory is a converter with real editing conveniences attached — not a full editor, but more capable than most people expect. Every tool below was confirmed by hand on the installed 5.22.0.0 build.
Video/Audio Joiner & Splitter
Merge several clips or audio files into one, or split a single file into parts — separate joiner and splitter tools exist for both video and audio in their respective panels.
Crop & Trim video (Fast Clip)
The output settings dialog includes a crop control for removing black bars or unwanted frame edges. "Fast Clip" trims a video to a specific start/end point without re-encoding the whole file.
Delogo — remove a watermark
A dedicated Delogo tool removes a logo or watermark burned into a video — since version 5.5.0 it supports selecting multiple areas at once, useful for source clips with more than one overlay to clean up.
Add your own watermark
The output settings dialog has a dedicated "De agua" (watermark) tab with an "Add" button — confirmed real and functional in our own test, not just mentioned in the changelog.
Subtitles (add, extract, burn-in)
The same output dialog includes a Subtitle tab, letting you burn subtitles into the output video or work with a separate subtitle track alongside it.
Mux — combine video, audio & subtitle tracks
The Video panel includes a dedicated "Mezclador de Video & Mux" tool for combining separate video, audio, and subtitle tracks into a single output file — useful when you have them as separate files and want one finished video.

Ripping a DVD or CD to a file
The Device ROM/DVD/CD/ISO panel rips a Blu-ray disc to MKV and a music CD to audio files directly. Ripping a standard DVD to a video file specifically requires the free DVDRipper add-on module (24 MB), which downloads the first time you use it through Options → Modules — it isn't part of the base install.
Batch rename and media info tools
Beyond the video/audio editing tools above, the Utilities panel includes a batch file renamer — confirmed in our own test — for standardizing filenames across a whole folder at once, useful before or after a large conversion batch. A Media File Info tool inspects codec, resolution, bitrate, and duration details for a file without needing a separate third-party tool.
More editing tool questions
Can Delogo remove any watermark perfectly?
Delogo works by blurring or covering the selected area for the duration of the clip, which is effective for static logos over a relatively simple background — it isn't a content-aware AI removal tool, so results over busy or high-motion backgrounds will be more visible than over a plain one.
Do these editing tools work on audio-only files too?
Joining, splitting, and mixing are all available specifically for audio files in the Audio panel, separate from the video tools — you don't need to convert audio to video first to use them.
Is there an undo button while editing?
These tools operate on the output configuration for a queued file rather than as a live, undoable editor — if a crop or trim doesn't look right, adjust the settings again before starting the conversion rather than looking for an undo history.
Two-pass encoding, explained
The output settings dialog's two-pass encoding option analyzes the whole video in a first pass before actually encoding it in a second, using what it learned to distribute bitrate more intelligently across complex and simple scenes. The tradeoff is straightforward: roughly double the encoding time in exchange for noticeably better quality at the same file size, or a smaller file at the same quality. It's worth enabling for anything you're archiving or sharing widely, and worth skipping for a quick, disposable conversion where speed matters more than the last bit of quality.
When these tools aren't enough
These are genuinely useful editing conveniences, but they stop short of a real timeline-based editor — there's no multi-track timeline, no transitions, no color grading, and no keyframe animation. For a quick trim, a watermark removal, or joining a few clips together, Format Factory handles it well. For anything resembling actual video editing — cutting a story together from multiple sources, adding effects, or fine-grained audio mixing — dedicated software built for that purpose will serve you better.
